Registered nurses (RNs) are certified healthcare workers with sufficient training to providing nursing services. They collaborate with physicians to develop quality and safe healthcare management approaches in line with the patient’s needs. Various skills and competencies influence the successful execution of the individual’s services in different areas. These include;
v Organization: RNs should perform the required activities and services in a structured manner.
v Communication (Written and Oral): This entails verbal and non-verbal cues to enhance the engagement process.
v Critical thinking: This involves using evidence and analytical skills to arrive at solutions to various issues.
v Decision making: This involves using knowledge and evidence to make informed decisions.
v Oriented to the environment: A competent RN should be conversant with the surrounding, including the colleagues and aspects that promote healthcare quality.
v Providing compassionate and kind care
v Cultural competence: RNs should provide quality and safe care to every individual regardless of their diversity, including age, gender, and race.
v Responsibility and accountability: RNs should be accountable for their actions.
v Professionalism: This involves using medical knowledge to assist patients and provide quality care.
