Objectives
Stewart et al. (2024) evaluates the significance of setting SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed) goals in health interventions. The study involved Australian community pharmacists and service users with severe and persistent mental illnesses (SPMIs). The importance of the goals was assessed using the operationalized SMART Goal Evaluation Method (SMART-GEM). Findings from the study revealed that although setting SMART goals play an important role in health interventions, it is essential for users to have a detailed understanding of elements and examine the impacts in relation to the quality of the goals. SMART objectives are instrumental in assessing the interventions.
In the second article, Swann et al. (2023) describes the SMART acronym and highlights the importance of the approach in setting key goals. Terming it as a prominent strategy, the article reviews the SMART goals, how to set them, and their importance. Key findings about the SMART objectives are that its appeal is founded on the heuristic of its memorability and simplicity. In addition, its dissemination among the healthcare organisations and professionals is an attestation to its practicality. Some of the applications of the SMART goals and objectives is when seeking approval of the treatment goals and plans. Further areas of analysis based on the recommendations is to ensure that there is consistency in understanding the terms. In addition, future research should look into more effective goal-setting to aid individuals achieve their expected outcomes, including remaining physically active.
